Gay Israeli Eurovision Contestant Hassled by Russia Officials

Image
Israel’s entrant to the Eurovision Song Contest said he was harassed by Russian border control officers while travelling to Moscow for a preview event, blaming the harassment on his being gay. The incident took place a couple weeks ago, but Hovi Star spoke about it on Friday during a television interview on Maltese television station TVM. “Maybe people in Moscow have a rough time with people like me, maybe because I’m gay, maybe because I dress like this, maybe because I wear make-up, I don’t know. But when I wanted to get into Moscow, I had problems with passport control. They told me I can’t go in, they looked at my passport, they ripped my passport and then they laughed at me,” he told the interviewers. Star’s song for the contest, “Made of Stars,” reportedly is popular in Malta. Following the Incident, Star was issued a new passport by the Israeli consulate in Moscow to replace the ripped one. The incident first became public when the Spanish contestant to Eurovis...

UK warns gay travellers about US anti-LGBT laws 21 April 2016   From the section US & Canada Image copyright AP Image caption Protesters called for governors of both states to repeal the laws The UK government has warned gay and transgender travellers to be careful in the US due to legislation in North Carolina and Mississippi. "The US is an extremely diverse society and attitudes toward LGBT people differ hugely across the country," a travel advisory from the UK reads. Newly passed laws in both states allow businesses to refuse service to LGBT people. The advisory comes from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In North Carolina, legislation passed by Governor Pat McCrory invalidates previously passed legislation from Charlotte, that state's largest city, that enacted LGBT protections. His new law states that transgender people must use public bathrooms according to the gender on their birth certificates. Mississippi's law has a similar ...

'Once Upon a Time' Reveals Gay Storyline; Creators Say "Love Is Love"

Image
APRIL 17, 2016   7:38pm PT by  Alyse Whitney Once Upon a Time  finally made good on its promise to include a gay storyline in season five, and it was an unexpected choice. Although Mulan (Jamie Chung) revealed her unrequited love for Princess Aurora (Sarah Bolger) in season three, she wasn’t the one in a new relationship in Sunday’s episode, “Ruby Slippers.” However, she did help make it happen. While Mulan is helping Ruby (Meghan Ory) find her wolf pack in Oz, they meet Dorothy (Teri Reeves) and help her try to take down Zelena (Rebecca Mader) when she steals Dorothy’s dog Toto. Ruby and Dorothy end up bonding over shared family problems, and Ruby turns to Mulan for advice about her feelings. “I know we just met, but I have never felt like this about anyone before,” she tells Mulan. “Don’t make the same mistake that I did. Don’t wait until it’s too late to tell someone how you feel,” Mulan replies, but by the time Ruby goes to do so, Dorothy is gone. REA...

Embattled NC Governor Calls Gay Rights Group ‘More Powerful Than The NRA’

Image
CHRIS KEANE/REUTERS Under attack for signing the controversial anti-LGBT law known as HB2, North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) said Sunday that a gay rights advocacy group is more powerful than the National Rifle Association. “The Human Rights Council. My gosh, they’re more powerful than the NRA,” McCrory told Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” alluding to the nation’s premier gun lobby. “And they have millions of dollars, which makes me want to overturn [Citizens] United, because I don’t know who their donors are, either. But they are putting on a lot of pressure, instead of having good dialogue.” Despite the group’s power, McCrory didn’t have its name right; it appears he was alluding to the Human Rights Campaign, which lobbies on civil rights for the LGBT community. The group has been a leading critic of the new law. McCrory has been  battered politically  for approving HB2, better known as the Charlotte bathroom bill. The law requires that transgender people...

But we’re not making any announce...

Gay waitress in North Carolina receives Bible lecture on receipt instead of tip: 'There's a lot of hate in Charlotte right now'

RUDE and CHRISTIAN... funny how the judgement of "religious" folk goes against everything Jesus was about. The walls of hell will be lined with the judgement of the "christian" with that huge log in their own eye. - m.t. Gay waitress Alexandra Judd was left a Bible verse as a tip earlier this week. A gay waitress in North Carolina received a Bible lecture — instead of a tip — from a diner earlier this week. Alexandra Judd was shocked to see "lev 20.13," short for Leviticus 20:13, where the gratuity should have been while serving brunch at Zada Jane's Corner Cafe in Charlotte on Tuesday. The receipt also included the words "praying for you." KING: AMERICA HAS ENTERED INTO NEW ERA OF HATE  The King James Bible version of Leviticus 20:13 reads: "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." The case has galvanized some gay rights advocates in China.   Credit Gilles Sabrie for The New York Times BEIJING — A judge ruled on Wednesday against a gay couple who had sought the right to marry, in  China ’s first court case addressing the issue of same-sex unions. The couple, Sun Wenlin and Hu Mingliang,  filed a lawsuit  against a civil affairs bureau in Changsha, Hunan Province, in southern China, after the office refused to grant them the right to marry when they tried to register in June 2015. In a surprising move, a district court accepted the case early this year, the first time a Chinese court had agreed to hear such a lawsuit. An initial hearing scheduled for January was postponed. The court held a hearing on Wedn...
